Wednesday, December 4, 2024  //  Day 4

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. —Psalm 62:5–8

MY ROCK AND MY SALVATION

It seems that David had a lot going on in his life. He was dealing with family issues, opposition, as well as enemies trying to dethrone and defeat him. Yet David had a calm confidence in his soul and faith in God. In the midst of opposition David quietly rested in God. His enemies could do whatever they wanted, but David would not lose his peace because God was his salvation and hope. David’s trust was in God alone. His expectation for deliverance was in God alone.
David had complete confidence in God because God was his hope, his rock, his salvation, his fortress, his glory, and his refuge. Therefore, David would not be shaken. Without God’s continual deliverance, David would have been defeated by his enemies. Since God had always been there for him, David encouraged the people to pour out their hearts to God and trust Him because He is their refuge as well. He encouraged them to pour out their doubts, fears, tears, sorrows, joys – everything before God.
Where or how does your soul find rest? Are you calmly and confidently resting in God alone?
What opposition or ‘enemies’ are you facing in your life right now?
Maybe you are dealing with family issues, a prodigal child, an unbelieving spouse, a recent diagnosis, or a financial crisis. Whatever it may be – remember you too can have a calm confidence in God when you trust in Him alone. The greater our realization that God is our refuge, the greater the calmness and confidence we have in our hearts. He is our peace.
During this Advent season, remember that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Silence your soul before Him and trust in Him alone.
